Dale Kerbi Embree

July 13, 1935 ~ August 2, 2011

Dale Embree passed away on August 2, 2011 at the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 76 years with his family by his side.

Dale was born on July 13, 1935 in Cranbrook BC. He was the son of Benjamin and Jennie Embree. He was the middle child, having two older and two younger sisters. Dale’s early childhood was spent in Wardner and after the untimely passing of Benjamin, the family moved to Creston where Dale attended and graduated from Creston Valley High School. Later Dale enrolled in the RCMP and he graduated from the training academy in Regina in 1955. Dale was posted to Saskatchewan where he met Emily Kurytnik. They were married in 1961 and had three children, Michelle, Ken and Jayne.

Dale served in the RCMP for 33 years, mostly in Saskatchewan, and he finished his career in Manitoba. He was commissioned as an officer in the RCMP in 1977. After 33 years of dedicated service Dale retired from the RCMP in 1988 and moved to Kelowna with Emily.

Dale loved his wife and children dearly. He was a devoted husband and lifelong partner with Emily and they would have celebrated their 50th anniversary later this month. Dale cherished his time with his children and grandchildren, of whom he was fiercely proud. He greatly enjoyed visiting with everyone in his extended family and also with his close friends.

Dale enjoyed all sports and as a young man he played baseball and basketball competitively. Later on, he curled and golfed at a high level. Being outdoors was important to Dale and he often took his family camping and fishing. He also enjoyed hunting with his friends. After retiring Dale continued to spend time outdoors at the Ponderosa Golf Course, where Dale and Emily were regulars for many years.

Dale was known for his quick wit and sharp sense of humour. He had incredible strength of character. He battled to the bitter end, fighting to survive as hard as he could with Emily’s loving care.

Dale was pre-deceased by his parents Benjamin and Jennie and his sister Bea Ryckman (Embree).

Dale will always and forever lovingly be remembered by his wife Emily, children Michelle (Dale) Anderson, Ken (Heather) and Jayne (Michael), grandchildren Jordan, Megan, Cara, Colin and Rhys, sister Pat Audette, sister Carol Currie, sister Alice-Faye (Jim) Lines, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Our family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. McCauley, Dr. Crittenden and the staff at Kelowna General Hospital. Your care and compassion made a very difficult time easier for Dale and all of us.

A private family service for Dale was held at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery on August 6, 2011.
