Creston RCMP responded to a total of 98 calls from August 15-21, Cpl. Darren Kakuno said onTuesday.
August 15
• When police responded to a dispute at an Elsie Holmes Road residence in Wynndel they determined that no assault had occurred and the parties went their separate ways.
• When police located a vehicle on 16th Avenue South reported to have an animal carcass inside they learned that the driver had salvaged part of a dead moose that he found on the side of a road. He expressed an intention to use the meat as dog food and the issue has been referred to the Conservation Officers Service.
• Police attended to a dispute on 6th Avenue North and concluded the issue was a civil matter. The residents were warned not to escalate the argument into a criminal matter.
• A suspicious suitcase was found on Highway 21 near Simon Road.
• A dog fight in Kitchener resulted in one animal needing veterinary care. The dog owners are dealing with the situation.
• A driver reported to have failed to yield at Canyon Street and 15th Avenue North was issued a warning.
• An assault in the 2900 block of Highway 3 resulted in minor injuries to one person, but police have determined that charges are not warranted.
• Police concluded that a dog reported to be in distress beside a vehicle on Canyon Street had food, water and shade, and was not in peril.
• Two males reported to be on drugs at a Yahk business were gone when police arrived.
• An investigation of shots fired in the Yahk area concluded the shooting was being done in a safe manner.
• A male accused of assault in Sanca had left the scene when police arrived, but he was located and arrested. He now faces assault charges.
• Police assisted BC Ambulance personnel with a male who appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
• A minor car crash occurred on Valleyview Drive.
• A male who was causing a disturbance at the hospital was arrested and held in police cells until sober.
August 16
• Police forwarded a report of an eastbound erratic driver near Yahk to Cranbrook RCMP.
• A warning was given to people involved in a neighbourhood dispute on 6th Avenue South.
• Riondel’s old rec centre was broken into in the past two weeks but no damage or theft was noted.
• A driver whose wallet was stolen at a Yahk service station got the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police identified the suspect and were able to recover the stolen wallet.
• A driver reported to be passing unsafely on Canyon Street was located and warned.
• Shots fired near Huscroft Road in Lister were determined to be blanks used by horse riders who were practicing for an upcoming competition.
• When police located a reported possibly impaired driver in the 2200 block of Highway 3 he was issued a ticket and given a 24-hour driving prohibition.
August 17
• An online ad offering a French bulldog for sale turned out to be fraudulent, something the victim learned after sending a deposit.
• A minor crash involving a truck towing a trailer at the Kootenay Bay ferry terminal resulted in some damage.
• Another “skinny” dog reported on Canyon Street was found to have food, water and shade, and not be in distress.
• Minor injuries to both drivers were reported after being rear-ended in the 1400 block of Northwest Boulevard.
• A landlord-tenant dispute in the 1000 block of Highway 21 was deemed not be criminal in nature.
August 18
• Police are investigating after a complaint about speeding motorcycles on Canyon-Lister Road.
• A found wallet has been returned to its owner.
• A person wanted on a Canada-wide immigration warrant was arrested and turned over to Canada Border Services Agency.
• An assault reported in Yahk is under investigation.
• An assault reported on 7th Avenue South resulted in the arrest of a female a short time later. Charges are pending.
• An intoxicated male on Balsam Road was arrested for breach of peace and held in cells until sober.
August 19
• Mischief reported to a vehicle in the 800 block of Canyon Street is under investigation.
• A red Dodge Ram extended cab truck stolen from Centre Road was recovered the following day on Canyon Street.
• A found wallet has been returned to the owner.
• When an officer became suspicious when he saw a male working on a car near Millennium Park an investigation revealed the car was stolen and that there were outstanding arrest warrants for him. A female returned to the vehicle during the investigation and was arrested along with the male, and charges for possession of stolen property are pending.
• A check stop on Erickson Road helped police take an impaired driver off the road. He was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.
August 20
• A suspicious box reported on the railway tracks near 9th Avenue South turned out to be an empty beer carton.
• A female wanted on an outstanding warrant was arrested at the Kingsgate border crossing and is being held in custody for a court appearance.
• Two reported off-road dirt bikes near Jordan’s Cabin were not located.
August 21
• A well-being check on a woman near Highway 21 at Canyon Street indicated she was fine.
• Police did not locate semi reported to be driving eastbound near Kootenay Pass with smoking brakes.
