With only 55 calls to respond to from Nov. 5-11, the highlight of the RCMP week was the continued growth of moustaches on the participants in the annual Movember fundraiser for cancer research. Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said he has relaxed grooming requirements so he and other male members can participate.
Police Beat
November 5
•A 911 call from Highway 3A was determined to have been caused by a tree falling on phone lines.
•Minor damage resulted in a two-vehicle collision on 10th Avenue North.
•A well-being check on a Masuch Road resident revealed he was okay, but his phone service wasn’t.
•No injuries were reported in a minor two-vehicle collision in a Canyon Street parking lot.
•A female driver complained that someone lectured her about 11th Avenue South being a 30kph zone.
•A complaint of fraud was received from 18th Avenue South.
•No trace could be made of a 911 call through the Whimster Road cell phone tower.
November 6
•Police served a summons to an Aspen Road residence on behalf of Cranbrook RCMP.
•A cell phone 911 call through the Riley Road tower could not be traced.
•Tools were stolen when a John Deere grader was broken into on the Big Bear Forest Service Road.
•Police received a report that two males started a red Toyota truck with a screwdriver on 9th Avenue North and drove away but no report of a theft has been received.
November 7
•Police were unable to locate a vehicle reported as being driven without insurance on Oliver Road.
•When police conducted a well-being check on a male on 11th Avenue South, they found him on the floor. He said he’d been there for two days, suffering from a gout attack. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.
•911 calls through the Riley Road and Topaz Creek cell phone towers could not be traced.
•A 13-year-old female who has been skipping school was put into the hands of a provincial government ministry that doesn’t like its name to appear in the newspaper.
•A youth who was caught shoplifting at a Cook Street business faces charges and a court appearance.
•One occupant was taken to hospital with minor injuries after a collision on Scott Street. A driver has been charged with failing to yield at a Stop sign.
•A male who was reported to be causing a disturbance on 10th Avenue North collapsed and was taken to hospital.
•A CCM Express bicycle was found on Highway 3. It can be claimed by the owner at the police station.
•Police attended an Evans Road residence to keep the peace while a female removed her belongings.
•A driver who claimed to have swerved to avoid a deer on Lakeview-Arrow Creek Road rolled the vehicle onto its roof. Police are investigating and believe speed may have been a factor.
November 8
•Police were called to an Erickson Road neighbours’ dispute over a fence three times during the week.
•A report of harassing phone calls to a Cook Street residence is being investigated.
•Harassing Facebook messages were reported by a Cook Street residence.
November 9
•When police investigated a report of stolen cash at an Erickson Road residence, they discovered that a friend of the victim has 34 arrest warrants in Alberta. He was taken into custody to await transfer to Alberta.
•A written warning was given to a driver who failed to stop for a school bus displaying flashing lights in front of Adam Robertson Elementary School.
•Police were called to a landlord-tenant dispute on Majestic Road in Kingsgate.
November 10
•An old lawnmower was abandoned on a Crawford Street yard. Police concluded the mystery by throwing it in the garbage.
November 11
•A vehicle struck a power pole on 33rd Avenue North when the driver swerved to avoid a deer.
•Three intoxicated males on 15th Avenue South got special treatment when an RCMP officer wearing a red serge uniform after attending Remembrance Day ceremonies seized their liquor.
•A complaint about fireworks came from Wadds Road in Crawford Bay.
•A 12th Avenue North resident reported that a person claiming to represent Fortis BC came to the door and asked to see power bills. Fortis told police they have no representatives undertaking such activity.
