A motorhome and car are likely write-offs after a collision caused a fire last night in Erickson.

At 9:34 p.m., Creston Fire Rescue was called to the scene at the corner of Highway 3 and 33rd Avenue South, where a Chrysler Intrepid had gone off the road, striking the motorhome’s propane tank.

“No one was in the motorhome at the time, fortunately,” said fire Chief Bruce Mabin.

The car’s driver was taken to the Creston Valley Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Nine firefighters attended the blaze and worked at the scene for two hours. The car sustained $5,000-$8,000 in damage, while the motorhome’s damage was more significant, likely around $19,000.

The blaze took place below power and service lines, and Telus and Shaw were checking the lines this morning to see if they sustained damage. There was no damage to Fortis BC lines by the flames, which were 30-40 feet hight.

“It was quite the light show,” said Mabin.
