What seemed to be unlikely a few years back becomes a reality this Friday when the 100th Creston Valley Fall Fair is declared open.

The cutting of a massive 4-foot by 8-foot cake will kick off the festivities at the Community Complex, and events throughout the weekend will offer entertainment and amusement for people of all ages.

Fall Fair president Randy Meyer and his wife, Sheila, wondered several years ago whether the event would reach its 100th birthday.

“We came back three years ago with a commitment to get to this point,” Meyer said on Friday. “The organization is in good shape and we have a great weekend to look forward to.”

The committee that was withering not so long ago has attracted new volunteers and 20 or more have been attending meetings to prepare for the 2018 landmark Fall Fair.
