Creston RCMP responded to 66 calls in a relatively slow period from Nov. 7-13, Staff Sgt. Bob Gollan said on Nov. 14. The theft and vandalism of election campaign signs has become an issue and Gollan pointed out that tampering with such signs is an offense under the Criminal Code of Canada.

November 7

•A decorative lion statue valued at $300 was stolen from a Ninth Avenue South yard. It was found nearby, smashed.

•A photograph was the only item stolen during a break-in to a residence on 36th Street.

•When police stopped a vehicle that was reported to be speeding on Erickson Road, they found the driver’s licence was to be withheld at the request of ICBC.

•A resident of Highway 21 South reports that a Dell laptop computer is missing, but was unable to confirm that it had been stolen.

November 8

•Police were called when computers at the Creston Education Centre indicated there was a local wireless Internet connection with the name “sexual predator”. A bit of detective work led police to a local address, where the computer user has agreed to change the name.

•When police checked on an abandoned 911 call from 43rd Street, they found the cellphone’s owner was asleep, unaware of how the number could have been dialed.

•An 11th Avenue resident has turned over the investigation of unauthorized credit card charges to the credit card provider.

•Police were called to Vance Road in Erickson, where an estranged couple was in a dispute over property.

November 9

•A quantity of cash was found in a house for sale on West Creston Road. It has been turned over to the bank that now owns the property after it was repossessed.

November 10

•Creston police were asked to assist Cranbrook RCMP by serving a ticket for a motor vehicle infraction to a 14th Avenue North resident.

•When police checked a report about a female hauling rocks from beside the Goat River they learned she mistakenly thought she was removing them from her own property.

•A grey car bearing California licence plates passed a stopped school bus displaying flashing lights on Highway 3A in Boswell.

•A white vehicle fled the scene after sideswiping another vehicle at the intersection of Helen Street and Northwest Boulevard.

November 11

•No injuries resulted when a vehicle went off an icy Highway 3 and into the ditch near Irishman Creek.

•An 11th Avenue homeowner reported that a tenant has significantly damaged the rental property.

•A Beam Road resident called 911 to report he had received a Microsoft phone scam call. Gollan reminds readers that such calls are not emergencies and the 911 number should not be used in similar cases.

November 12

•A break-in to a Seventh Avenue North residence netted thieves an Acer laptop computer, DVD movies and a black knapsack.

•When police arrived to investigate a complaint that a female was refusing to leave a Westview Road residence, she had fallen asleep as the complainant said she no longer had to leave.

•A 30-year-old male faces a robbery charge after stealing from a Ninth Avenue liquor store. When police responded to the call and located the robber’s vehicle, they also found he had been consuming alcohol. He failed roadside screening device tests and was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

November 13

•Cash was stolen during a break-in to a business on Highway 21 North.

•After a dispute at a residence in the 1500 block of Northwest Boulevard, a male voluntarily left the area.
