Creston Town Council will be back to its full complement of six councillors after Adam Casemore takes the Oath of Office.

Casemore, the youngest of five candidates vying for the seat left vacant by the death of Joe Snopek late last year, captured 214 of the 608 votes cast.

Signe Miller, the only non-Creston resident in the race, finished second with 144 votes, ahead of former Town Councillor Scott Veitch. One-time Town of Creston CEO Bill Hutchinson received 81 votes and First Nations consultant Hugh Taylor was named on 42 ballots.

“I congratulate Adam and look forward to working with him,” Mayor Ron Toyota said on Sunday.

Chief election officer Bev Caldwell expressed her disappointment in the low voter turnout, but couldn’t comment on the percentage of eligible voters who cast ballots.

“We don’t have an up to date voter’s list,” she said on Saturday evening.

Nearly a third of voters cast their ballots on earlier voting days or by mail.

Casemore will have about 16 months in his position before the 2018 municipal elections are held. He joins Jen Comer and Kevin Boehmer in the under-40 age bracket on Creston Town Council.
