TAPS is doing a Mash Up! (Musically speaking that is, not a potato dish.) For the next year TAPS, musicians and singers will be meeting with a variety of groups from schools and the community, exchanging songs, learning from each other and doing performances. In April we meet with Mormon Hills School under the leadership of Mary Jane Blackmore… 18 youth with guitars and our TAPS merry music makers will create beautiful music together over the next 5 weeks.

April is volunteer month; every year we recognize the role of our volunteers with a special Appreciation Luncheon. Volunteers play many roles at TAPS including fundraising, program support, contributing their skills and creating a positive experience for our seniors, families, and caregivers. They are the backbone of what we offer and certainly appreciated by all of us.

Thanks for the speedy and generous response from the community to our TAPS new vehicle fund: The Big News is that we now have enough funding and have ordered the new van that will meet all our needs. We want to express our thanks to all those who have contributed or committed funds to make this a reality: Krafty Kronys, Creston and District Credit Union, TAPS fundraiser, major anonymous donor, Ford Canada and Kokanee Ford, many individual community donors, Royal Canadian Legion Br 29, Creston Valley Rotary Club and a BC Gaming Grant. We’re working with Kokanee Ford and thank them for their partnership in this. The ’old’ TAPS bus is temporarily back in action thanks to a helpful citizen who donated his mechanical skills to put her back on the road until we have the new van. Angels everywhere!

TAPS operates under the auspices of Valley Community Services who provides administrative and operational support services to the program. Other benefits of this association include support for staff to increase or enhance their knowledge by taking part in educational opportunities. Examples of recent training include Food Safe Certification and courses about Understanding Dementia which help TAPS provide quality programs. Additionally, as part of the family of service programs under VCS’s umbrella, we participate in strategic planning, health, and safety programs, we stay informed of upcoming opportunities, take part in surveys and are aware of issues facing our larger community both municipally and regionally.

New from the Krafty Kronys; Our hardworking fundraising ladies will be at the RotoCrest Hall with their handmade functional and gift items at the ‘Marketplace’ which happens on the second Saturday of each month from 10-3. As well, look for them at Pealow’s the last Friday of each month from noon to 6 pm. Thank you to Brian Pealow for the offer and support.
