Creston’s Quilts 4 Kids recenlty received a letter of appreciation from Catherine Beller, who has volunteered at BC Children’s Hospital for 12 years.

“This sure makes what we do so worthwhile,” said Quilts 4 Kids member Gail Mason.

“I am the treat lady,” said Beller. “I fill the treasure chests with treats such as parachute men, dinosaurs, puzzles, etc., for clinic patients. I also try to find any items that are on wish lists for the in-patients. So, when I got the message that there were some quilts for us I was thrilled to have them.”

Beller said the quilts were badly needed by teens in the mental health and eating disorders in-patient units — and they were thrilled to receive them.

“It is hard to believe that some have never had a new gift, let alone a new quilt for their own to keep,” Beller continued. “They were surprised someone would make and give the quilts away, and to them! Many noticed the work and the talent that went into each quilt, and took their time carefully choosing their favourite.

“This was a special moment witnessed by the staff and everyone was smiling. It was a very good afternoon!

“The children said to say, ‘Thank you for the beautiful quilts,’ and that ‘You guys rock.’ ”
