PCSS students to combine mystery and talent for upcoming show

“Pack up the babies, and grab the old ladies, and everyone goes, ‘cause everyone knows A PCSS show!”

It just wouldn’t be a Brooke Douma production if the PCSS drama department trotted out one act after another and called it a talent show.

This year’s The Mystery of the Haunted Theatre (featuring cartoon character Scooby Doo and the gang) will provide ample proof.

“I always choose a theme for my talent shows to make it more fun and entertaining for both the students and the audience,” the drama teacher said on Monday. “ The mini-play between the acts also helps with the flow of the show, so that there is no awkward dead time between performances.”

Any production featuring PCSS talent in recent years has been a joy, and this year’s mystery-themed show promises to be no exception. How does Douma describe the plot?

“There have been rumours that the theatre has a ghost problem, and the ghost sightings are scaring away patrons. The theatre is going broke, so the theatre manager decides to have a variety show to try and raise money to save it. She also hires Scooby Doo and the gang to come to the auditions to try to find the ghosts and solve the mystery. They figure it out, of course, and the theatre is saved!”

So, to paraphrase the lyrics of the recently retired Neil Diamond, “Pack up the babies, and grab the old ladies, and everyone goes, ‘cause everyone knows

A PCSS show!”

The Mystery of the Haunted Theatre will have two performances next Thursday and Friday, March 1 & 2, 7 pm at PCSS Theatre. Tickets are available at Black Bear Books, the PCSS office and from cast members.
