The children's parade hosted by the Creston Lions Club is a popular part of the Creston Valley Blossom Festival.

How the time flies when you are having a good time! Oct. 4 marks an important milestone in the history of Creston's longest serving public service club. The motto of the Lions Club is “We serve”, a very appropriate choice for the Creston Lions who celebrate 75 years this weekend.

The Creston Lions Club began in 1939 thanks to a team of volunteers from the Spokane Central Lions Club. Over the years, the Lions have survived the Second World War, helped build the town’s first arena and have raised funds for many projects such as equipment for the hospital, and helping out the Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors.

The Lions helped start the Creston Valley Blossom Festival, and although not directly involved in its operationt, still play a major role in the festival. As well as the ever popular Lions signature pancake breakfast, other events include the chili cook-off, street fair, children’s parade and picnic in the park, with games organized by the army cadets.

Recently the Lions purchased two new seats for the Prince Charles Theatre. Annually, the Lions award two scholarships to local high school students to assist them in furthering their education.

Guest speaker is Gary D’Orazio, a past international director from Boise, Idaho, and a retired executive from the Albertsons supermarket chain where he controlled a large district.

The anniversary dinner and dance takes place at the Royal Canadian Legion, with catering by the Creston Hotel and music by Gerhard Link and his trio. Tickets are avaialable by calling 250-402-6433.
