Canyon-Lister Elementary School’s Be the Change group had the opportunity of meeting a family that has just moved to Creston from Burma, sponsored by the Creston Refugee Committee. They are a young couple, the Marans, with their two children, Merry, 2, and Joshua, five months, and a younger brother, Naw Naw, to the father.

CLES wanted to help make their first Canadian Christmas a cozy one. Students gave them a wonderfully warm welcome and presented them with a few Christmas gifts including stockings, toys and the nonperishable food items that were collected during the Halloween Scare the Hunger food drive. Children sang Imagine as their final gift, wishing them a season filled with peace and happiness. A tour of the school and a few trips down the slide for Merry and the visit was over much too quickly!

The Be the Change group has plans to sing Imagine by John Lennon at the fundraising concert sometime in early 2015, and they hope to see you there!
