Erickson Elementary School poster contest winners were (from left) Jessica Harrison, Kaitlin Warner, DPAC representative Retha Marsden, Cole Pfingsttag and Logan Hammond.

A Night for the Kids was the name selected as the winning entry in the recent contest held by the local parent advisory council and Kootenay Lake District Parent Advisory Council representatives to be used at the children’s show and silent auction on Feb. 20.

“It was a hard decision for us to select the name as there were some really great entries to choose from,” said DPAC vice-chair Retha Marsden. “We thought this name was unique as all the funds raised from the event are going directly towards replacing the old children’s playground equipment at Centennial Park. The new playground will benefit all of our local children and all children that come to Creston to play there. It’s perfect.”

The committee members had a tough time choosing winners of the poster contest as there were so many unique entries submitted it made the task difficult. It was clear to see that the time and effort each child put into their poster was amazing. All of the artwork will be on display at the silent auction in the spring so family members and friends can see just how hard the decision was.

The winners of the poster contest are Logan Hammond, Cole Pfingsttag, Kaitlin Warner, Katelyn Wiens, Kaeden Rendek, Sue-Anne Van der Merwe and Jessica Harrison.

The Show and Silent Auction Committee members had a tough time choosing winners of the poster and name contest, as there were so many unique entries submitted it made the task difficult.

“It was clear to see that the time and effort each child put into their poster was amazing,” said Marsden.

Christina Walker, a Grade 7 student submitted the winning name. Winners will be receiving a free pizza from Panago Pizza.

The committee offers congratulations to the winners and extends its appreciation to the teachers whose entire classes submitted entries.

“This fundraising event is going to be fantastic and it’s all for the kids,” said Marsden. “Colin Hardwick is going to be the MC and we have individual and group performances planned.”

A Night for the Kids will be taking place on Feb. 20 at the Prince Charles Auditorium and student lounge. Tickets are $6 each or $20 for a family of four, available at Black Bear Books, Home Hardware Building Centre and Golden Herb Health Foods.
